Intro

We recently completed this polished concrete floor at a wedding venue near Llanelli in South West Wales. The client loved the look of polished concrete and wanted something that would really set the venue apart from others.

Project

The floor was installed across around 300m² of the main venue space. Set beside a lake, it’s a great location, and the aim was to create a floor that matched the setting while still giving a strong, modern feel.

The client had a clear idea on colour and wanted something darker, so we went with an Ashen Grey finish. There’s no underfloor heating on this project as the building uses air conditioning.

Process

Due to the size of the floor, it was poured over three separate days to keep everything consistent across the full area.

Because it’s a wedding venue, we also had to think about slip resistance. To improve this without changing the overall look, the floor was acid etched. This gives it a bit more grip underfoot while keeping the same polished concrete aesthetic.

Access on site was good, which made pumping and installation straightforward.

Result

The finished floor is clean, seamless and works really well in the space. The darker Ashen Grey gives it a strong look, while still sitting nicely within the setting.

It’s a practical, durable surface for a busy venue, and the client at Sylen Lakes was really happy with how it turned out.
