Intro

This Nuvolato Architop floor was installed in Sketty, Swansea for a residential extension. The client wanted the look of a polished concrete floor but needed a solution that could be applied over an existing substrate.

Project

The floor was installed across the entire extension, including the kitchen, dining and living areas, as well as the utility.

Using a 2mm microcement overlay, this system allowed us to achieve a seamless, modern finish without the need for a full concrete slab. The client was drawn to the aesthetic of polished concrete, and we worked closely with them to select a Zinco colour with a power floated finish to replicate that look.

Process

The existing substrate was prepared to ensure it was suitable for the overlay system. The Nuvolato Architop was then applied at approximately 2mm thickness and finished using a power float to create movement and texture similar to a polished concrete floor.

One of the key discussions on this project was the final finish. The client was undecided between a satin or glossy finish, so we advised sealing the floor initially and leaving the option open to apply a polish after the initial sealing, allowing the client to choose between a satin or higher gloss finish over time.

Result

The finished floor provides a clean, seamless surface that closely resembles polished concrete, while being installed over an existing floor build-up.

The Zinco colour and power floated finish give the space a strong, modern feel, and the flexibility around the final sheen allows the client to adapt the look over time.
